Very sporadic, local in Europe, West Russia, Urals, South and West Siberia, North Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China and Japan. In Bulgaria known from only two localities around the Mandra Lake near Burgas; all the specimens originate from the beginning of the last century. Included in Appendix II of the Habitats Directive 92/43 of the European Union, Appendix II of the Bern Convention and is listed as vulnerable in Red Data Book of European butterflies (
van Swaay & Warren, 1999: 183).
