Collection Lepidoptera

Collection Lepidoptera (1)

The collection of butterflies includes materials collected by I. Buresch, D. Iltchew, A. Markovich, P. Tchorbadjiev, in the first half of XX century, mainly from Bulgaria. Of particular historical value is the ‘royal collection’ — mainly materials collected by H.M. King Boris III. It also contains new receipts from the collections of S. Abadjiev, S. Bocharov, I. Stoychev. Numbers over 20000 specimens.

The collection Lepidoptera nocturna, group Macrolepidoptera, includes mainly the collections of I. Buresch, D. Iltchew, P. Tchorbadjiev originated mostly from the first half of the last century, as well as the collections of Bocharov, Karnoschitzky, Boshnakov, Vihodcevsky, Zlatarsky, Zagorchinov, Ganev etc. from the middle and the second half of the 20 century. There is as well collection of exotic species reared in insectarium. Altogether the collection counts 800 entomological boxes 30×40 сm containing about 78000 specimens. The majority of the collection is arranged systematically but there are boxes with unsorted material and some other insects and Lepidoptera from other groups. Specimens are mostly from Bulgaria. Contemporary collection consists of collections of S. Beshkov and B. Zlatkov arranged in about 600 wooden boxes 30×40 сm and counts approximately 60000 specimens. The collection of Beshkov is arranged systematically, but there are boxes with unsorted material and some other insects and Lepidoptera from other groups. Materials are from Bulgaria, other Balkan countries, Turkey, other Palaearctic countries, Martinique island. About 50 wooden boxes with about 5000 specimens are from Japan.

The collection Lepidoptera nocturna, group Microlepidoptera, includes mainly the collections of I. Buresh, D. Iltchew, P. Tchorbadjiev originated mostly from the first half of the last century, as well as the collections of B. Zlatkov from the beginning of 21 century arranged in 180 entomological boxes 30×40 сm containing about 40000 specimens. The collection consists mainly from Pyraloidea and Tortricidae and in its majority is arranged systematically. Materials are mostly from Bulgaria.
